Latest on Rezoning

Vanderlyn Redistricting Community Meeting
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 25
Vanderlyn Elementary

If you are one of those who likes to see Dunwoody at its worst, meander on over to the DunwoodySchoolDaze blogsite and read the negative comments on DeKalb County's school redistricting (at last look, there were 115 posts under the headline "Notice of Vanderlyn Meetings."
This is not a criticism of Dunwoody Mom, who does a fabulous job of running the site and keeping the community informed, instead it's an indictment of Dunwoody, as a whole.  We ought to be ashamed of ourselves to spew such venom.  I read the comments because every so often one of the anonymous writers is informative.  Unfortunately, the writers whose objective is to education rather than criticize, are few and far between.  It amazes me how much courage some people have posting anonymously, which is why I can't take these posts seriously.  For all I know, it's one or two people posting over and over.
If anyone objects to this post, please let me know.  I'll be happy to meet you for a cup of coffee (that includes you Rick).
I subscribe to Abe Lincoln's theory, "the best way to destroy your enemies is make them your friends."

Bob,

I don't drink coffee, so how about a pitcher of Hoegaarden at Mellow Mushroom this weekend? I'll even buy.

Agreed, Bob...this is sad and so embarassing for our community.

I am going to rethink this whole blog idea. I thought it important to keep the community updated on school news, but to see what all of this is doing, I'm totally discouraged.

Dunwoody Mom,

I truly hope you don't stop blogging. Your blog has helped keep me informed.

You might consider not letting anonymous posts on your blog. The tone might be different if someone is forced to attach their name.

Rick - let's do it!

After reading the blog comments earlier today when there were only 85 or so, my reaction was that it is just so very sad. And I completely agree with Bob about restricting the "anonymous" comments. Even if we don't know exactly who the person is based on their chosen name, we can see how many different people are actually participating in the "venom spewing" .... I mean "discussion". Don't stop blogging Dunwoody Mom.

Dunwoody mom,

I posted some of this on your site as well... This will blow over. Your moderation of comments will help until cooler heads prevail. Remember, 90 percent of the posts typically come from 10 percent of the people, which means there is another 90 percent counting on you to keep the blog going for information. Your blog is a great service and the only way I only knew about tonight's vandy meeting. Sorry bob but didn't see it here until now. There do seem to be some mean spirited people but they are the minority, just very vocal. Lastly, you probably should drop anonymous commenting and force some kind of login. It is the only way you will ever block users if you need to do so.
