Lawsuit Planned as Latest School Lines are Revealed Tonight

Tonight the DeKalb County School System Board of Education will vote on Superintendent Ramona Tyson's plans for redistricting.  Tonight's meeting starts at 6pm and will be televised by Comcast, Channel 24.  It should be interesting to say the least!
Meantime, parents in Dunwoody have hired a high-powered attorney, and plan to sue if part of the redistricting plan is approved.

Rick,
No, I'm not in favor of a lawsuit. I thought the superintendent did a very nice job with the lines that were revealed a month ago.

Bob,

deleted original comment as it read as though i referenced blogger Dunwoody Mom when I meant Dunwoody moms. Anyway, glad you, like nearly everyone else in Dunwoody, were okay with the last set of lines.

The last set of lines was universally liked by all except a few who still think they MUST remain at Vanderlyn.

I guess you folks missed the last issue of the Crier that outlined how Chesnut was in danger of losing some if its programs because of the current redistricting. Clearly, not everyone is thrilled as there are lingering concerns regarding equal programs at all Dunwoody schools.

Anyone here planning to lend their support to Chesnut's concerns?

I think the kids at Chesnut should have the same programs as the other DeKalb elementary schools.

However, I don't think that DES should be at 89% capacity while kids are in trailers at Chesnut.

If Chesnut needs help getting a full time music and art teacher (or whatever it is they have concerns about)I'd lobby on that behalf.

bChesnut definitely needs to have enough children so that it gets specials. If they need to take children from DES to do so - so be it.

You read my mind, Rick.
From what I can see, Chesnut's building was built in a time when the FTE method of determining numbers and types of teachers didn't exist. I don't see them getting a new/larger building in this time-space continuum.

Anyone know of a legal way of getting the "specials" funded even if Chesnut is forced below the "magic 450" number?

Nancy J, I know you're reading this... keep this group in mind at your vote tonight....

tonight's vote is a different issue than getting the extra staff for 'specials' at Chesnut. two separate issues. I hope the issue will be addressed after the redistricting.

We were moved from V to DES and love the last minute changes. Seems like they will make DES more attractive to home buyers helping mitigate the impact of being moved out of V.
